The Credit Granting and Recovery Manager leads a team of 8 people responsible for credit adjudication and recovery of accounts receivable for Irving Oil’s various lines of business. This position provides advisory support to sales staff and ensures compliance to credit governance in the credit granting process. This position is located in Saint John, NB, however, travel to our Portsmouth, NH office as well as on-site customer visits accounts for up to 25% of the time.
Supervise credit adjudication and recovery facilities for both consumer and proprietor commercial accounts in Canada and the U.S.
Ensure approved accounts meet credit governance guidelines, that security is appropriate, and recovery processes are adequate and followed to maximize recovery of all accounts.
Review applications prepared for completion and assessment of decisions.
Support sales team by adjudicating applications as well as providing direction and advice to improve the application process.
Provide decisions on applications within approved limits and make recommendations on all applications that exceed the limit.
Review and supervise files for court action or write-off.
From time to time, represent the company in small claims court for basic procedures such as simple trial, payment hearings, and settlement conferences.
Recommend reserve allowances, ensure write-offs are processed on a timely basis.
Respond to customer questions and disputes; resolve balance and other problems on delinquent accounts.
Offer relevant training courses, seminars, and lunch and learns to assist the sales team and other customer facing employees in learning more about credit.
Prepare budgets and develop plans for the department’s management.
Prepare and conduct performance appraisals.
Prepare reports on credit activities for senior leadership team in Canada and the U.S.
Regular attendance at meetings to provide updates on activities to stakeholders such as department managers, General Manager, CFO, and Treasury.

Education and Experience:
Post-secondary education in accounting, finance, business, or equivalent experience.
5+ years of experience in business in a leadership role.
7+ years of experience in the consumer and commercial lending space.
A professional designation, e.g. CMA, a definite asset.
Bilingual (French and English) an asset.
